Students can play with science toys at the beginning of the science class. They help to demonstrate principles that we have discussed and give students hands-on experiences using science concepts. Here are a couple of examples from the optics unit below:

| This science toy is an "endless mirror". The candle inside is reflected continuously by the mirrors which are placed opposite each other. This demonstrates the Law of Reflection. | This science toy demonstrates refraction. The construx wheels roll down the ramp parallel to each other. When they hit the rocks (which represent a different medium) they are refracted, but are still travelling in straight lines. |
